WFP – Fit People Fitnessing

WFP – Fit People Fitnessing

I originally drafted this post the week after this trip, but life got in the way. So when I wrote, “Last weekend,” I really should have worded it, “back in May.” That said, I decided to write this disclaimer instead of correcting my original wording. Because why not?

Last weekend, I traveled to Indiana to spectate at the first stop of the World Fitness Project – a brand new, elite fitness competition. Per uzhe (well, how would you spell that?), I went with my in-laws, Liam & Sara. It was a fun weekend, despite the fact that I ended up a bit under the weather. Call it one of my Mother’s Day gifts from TG, who always gives me the nicest things. Thankfully, I didn’t feel too awful. Of course, coffee helped. And açaí bowls, natch.

Given that this was the very first competition of the WFP, I think it was put together pretty well, though there’s plenty of room for improvement. I’d like to see an expanded vendor village, though I’m sure some (cough, Hubs, cough) would say that more shopping opportunities are not really necessary – lol.

The entry to WFP – May 9-11, 2025

But, the shopping was not even my favorite part of the weekend. Nor was watching the action. The highlights for me were watching the competition up close and all of the personal interactions with some of my favorite athletes!

That conversation tied with the Wooley/Panchik convo for my favorite moments of the trip. Of course, I also enjoyed spending time with Sara, Liam (and celebrating his birthday), and running into fellow Kilter athlete, Tracy.

For the uninitiated, this competition is not an official CrossFit event. It’s an alternative to the CrossFit competition season, and a primary focus is athlete safety and input. You’d think that the originator of this sport would do that, but they don’t. I don’t even want to link to this because I no longer support CrossFit as an organization (though I still love the sport and the community!), so go ahead and Google CrossFit Games 2024 tragedy. Anyway, I really hope this WFP thing continues to grow. And if it does, I can brag that I was at the inaugural event of the very first season.
