Last Full Day

On this snowy day, I give you the penultimate installment of this edition of the cruise journal …

Cruise 1-16-16

It’s our last full day on board. How sad. I really do wish we could do a longer cruise. I could easily enjoy back to back cruises to go for 14 days. It’s been so nice. We’ve visited two countries we’ve never been too before (Mexico and Belize), snorkeled, slept well… ate too much… and I mastered day drinking!

The Girl brought this piece of coral back from the beach in Costa Maya. Unfortunately, we didn't notice there were live wormy things in it until we got back to the ship. I was torn between tossing it overboard so it could live on, and the rule that forbids throwing anything overboard. I felt badly, but didn't want to risk getting in trouble, so we let it dry out in the sun on the balcony. We did not bring it back home because it was really stinky - like dead sea things.

As I write this (under the influence of two glasses of complementary rum punch from the Effy store on board) I’m sitting in the shade by the pool, ocean beside me, and various young men offering to bring me drinks. Don’t get too excited – they work here. Still, it’s nice to be waited on. I will miss that once we get home. That, and the lovely weather. I hear the local high temp will be about 9 degrees when we get back. Ugh.

**Update at 5:24pm**

Despite our copious happy hour purchases, we did not win the raffle. C’est la vie.

Forecast tonight from 9-12pm includes up to 50mph gale force winds. Fun! Already, we’re listing towards the starboard side, and starting to rock. We’ve had some downpouring rain that has leaked through our balcony door (awesome, huh?). Now, the sunset is peeking through, so it’s not so wet, but, tonight should be interesting for sure.

I happened to be in the room, getting ready for dinner, when I noticed the clouds outside our cabin. It was getting ready to storm, and we had some rough seas ahead.

**Update 10:29 pm**

The ship definitely took a rocky turn around 7:00 pm. Everyone was stumbling and giggling like college kids. After dinner, The Girl did feel a little urpy, so we gave her half of one of my leftover Zofran tabs. Worked like a charm. I chose to combat the waves with Sauvignon Blanc. It’s been working quite well. I even managed to dance the electric slide in The Piazza with some of the staff and a bunch of other passengers – and I only stepped on two people’s feet! We are mostly packed, except for what we need in the morning.

As for my heat rash, I do think it’s letting up after my day indoors and in the shade. I’m still red and bumpy in the same spots, but not quite as bad, and the itching isn’t as constant. Hooray!

Tomorrow will be a long day of travel, as we have to vacate our stateroom by 8am, and don’t fly until 6:30 pm. It’s hard to believe that we will be home, in the frigid weather, by this time tomorrow. But, for now, I’ll don my headphones and watch an episode of Doctor Who on my iPad before I climb into bed, serenaded by the gentle rattle of hangers in the closet.
