Jumpin’ Jehosaphat!

Jumpin’ Jehosaphat!

I love purple, and Jeeps, but today, one scared the living daylights out of me.

The Girl and I were in the car, sitting at an infamous intersection by my house. It’s infamous for not only being a very long light, but it has a No Turn On Red sign and a very short right turn arrow. The window of opportunity to turn right is so small that all it takes is one person not paying attention to cause a whole line of cars to miss it. And it gets people angry, myself included.

So, for the second time in about a week, the arrow popped green but the car in front of me (the aforementioned purple Jeep) didn’t move. I did what anyone else would do – I gently beeped my horn. The guy (like the one before him) started gesturing at the No Turn On Red sign. I gestured back, pointing at the arrow in front of him. He opened his door and started yelling at me, at which point I rolled down my window a bit, so I could shout back that the green arrow means he should turn, all the while the growing line of cars waiting to turn are all honking longer, less polite honks. The guy slammed his door and peeled out, like you do. But, being that it’s been raining all day, he did a 180 and ended up on the curb, scaring both me and The Girl into a chorus of “Oh my gawd!” My heart pounded for at least the next 10 minutes.

As I made my turn and drove carefully around him, he gave me smirk. I thanked my lucky stars that he didn’t pull a gun on me. I swear, for a moment, I wondered if he’d pulled that move on purpose. But, after he turned around and his car fell farther behind in my rear view mirror, I realized he was driving at a snail’s pace and he was properly scared too. As my dad would say, serves him right. And yes, he had his cell phone in his hand the whole time. Idiot.

Meanwhile, I’m getting inspired for future posts by all the new voices I’m encountering through this NaBloPoMo venture and can’t wait to write a few of my upcoming posts. But, for now, I’ll leave you with this morning’s weather photo:

We had a massive downpour this morning. I spotted this red leaf in a puddle on my way back from the bus stop. I grabbed my camera and snapped away. It wasn't until I got it on the computer that I noticed the little centipede, clinging for dear life to a blade of duck grass.
