She Said Yes!

She Said Yes!

August 21, 2017 was a big day around here. First of all, it was The Girl’s first day of 4th grade. It was also my parents 50th wedding anniversary and the day of the Great American Eclipse. We didn’t get totality here, and in fact, we had a ton of cloud cover. But, that certainly didn’t overshadow the biggest event of the day – my (2nd) cousin, Rachel, got engaged! She and Jason have been together for not all that long (unlike Hubs and I with the eternal courtship), but long enough to know. Because when you know, you know.

Jason had the date planned MONTHS in advance, but didn’t let all of the key players in on his plan until about a month or so ago. Thanks to “promposals” and the like, more and more, couples want to photograph this grandest of gestures. I was thrilled to be asked to do the honors for this Secret Squirrel mission.

The conspirators rendezvoused at a local dining establishment before embarking on our super-secret mission. L-R – Me, Dave, Debbie, Jason, Jenna, Jordy, Michelle

Because Rachel had to work (she’s the AP at a school near me and it was a teacher inservice day), Jason arranged to time our arrival with the eclipse viewing party they had planned for the staff. Rachel was wearing the special blackout goggles Jason gave her, so she had no idea we were creeping up on her until Jason tapped her on the shoulder. I’ll let the photos tell the rest of the story (click to embiggen):

That night, we all went out to dinner, followed by a surprise cocktail party. It was such a fun afternoon and evening. I’m so happy that I got to be a part of it all!

Best wishes to Rachel and Jason. Can’t wait for the big day!
